5 Things To Remember For Senior Year
"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."
━Dr. Seuss
When you don't dwell on it, time can seem to go by particularly fast; it can seem like your entire life has just been moments blurred together. It seems like only yesterday I was sitting in my backyard making mud pies, and now I'm a almost a year away from getting my high school diploma. Time goes by pretty quickly; we often don't take the time to stand back and look at everything that has happened in our lives and use those victories and tragedies to become better people. We often take the lives we live for granted and don't appreciate the time we have to make it our best life ━ because we only get one.
For the past twelve years of my life, I've had to endure social interaction with people I can't tolerate, school dances that make me anxious, and subjects I know I won't need in the future. Now back in school, I find it bittersweet to look back on the times I spent sitting in uncomfortable desks, and the many football games I attended.
To my fellow seniors, please, take advantage of the time you have left in high school. Make every second worth remembering and have no regrets. Make mistakes and learn from them, have confidence and love yourself. It's our last year, so we shouldn't rush through to our caps and gowns. We need to embrace the opportunities that present themselves, and we need to be brave.
High school sucks, I'll be frank, but how you spend it is up to you.
1.)Be more optimistic.
It's no secret that no high schooler enjoys waking up before the sun rises to got to a place they don't want to go to. Over the years, I've eased up on the negativity when going to school, because sometimes cool things happen at school. However, as I am a pretty optimistic person, I find it easy to ditch the downsides. Seeing the silver lining in a situation is better than seeing a dark cloud over it. Be more optimistic, whether that be when it comes to school or any situation you find yourself in, because you'll be happier.
2.)Have confidence, always.
When I first started high school, I was so self conscious on what others thought about me. I was insecure about myself, so shying away from being myself seemed like the best option. Now that I'm older, I've learned to accept myself and realized that worrying about what others think about me is useless and unnecessary. So pick your head up, put on your best smile, and walk like you own the place. Confidence is the best accessory you could have at your disposal.
3.) Go to sporting events.
In high school, there are a plethora of sporting events during each season. Take advantage of it and attend at least one sporting event. My favorite part of the school year is being able to go to football games so I could cheer loudly for my team, and leave with mildly damaged vocal chords. I'm a competitive person, and even though I'm not playing the game, I will trash talk the other team and get defensive━quietly and to myself, because I'm afraid of confrontation.
Enjoy making noise for your school and appreciate the game. Cheer your heart out and relish in the achievements that your school team makes.
4.) Do your homework.
I know I'm a total Debby Downer, right now, but listen, slacking off gets you nowhere. For those planning to attend college, homework is handed out a whole lot more and is much more difficult than that of high school. Yeah, homework is stupid and time consuming, but the benefit is having good grades. Those good grades come in handy to future college students. Doing your homework shows responsibility. Don't slack off, because being responsible is better than being unreliable. Don't make excuses, because most of the time, your teachers have heard it already.
5.) Take no crap from anyone.
There are going to be people you interact with in high school that just don't get you and vice versa. There are going to be people you dislike, but what matters is how handle it. I've been in situations of vulnerability because I was scared to be brave and stand up for the little guy. In times of abhorrence directed towards you or anyone, you need to be the person that puts their foot down. Be like Captain America and block all that negativity with your fancy━completely metaphoric━vibranium shield.
